This is perhaps the most exciting route to Mount Syltnebba in Surnadal. The hiking trail covers a dry and solid surface as it climbs up Øralia Hill. You will walk past an area where the mountain farm Setersetra used to be and get a panoramic view over the village and the fjord from above the tree line.
The hike starts in Surnadalsøra where the eastern road up to the chapel begins. Walk up that road and take the left turn just before the chapel. Continue walking past the house that lies at the highest point of the village, walk up the hill, and keep moving along its side. Walk up the new forest road until you pass a stream where the terrain flattens out a little. Follow the sign and turn left onto the old forest road which climbs further up the hillside. Follow this road until you reach the next stream, Seterbekken, where the road ends in an earth mound. Take the path, which is known as Tølløvstien, up to the mountain pasture. As you climb up the hill, you will be accompanied by the sound stream the entire time. The path is clear all the way to Setersetra. All farm buildings are now gone but a new cabin was built on the pasture. Walk along the eastern side of the pasture and follow a clearly defined path to Syltnebba. Not far from Setersetra, the path runs very close to two cabins that you walk past. Walk to the right of the first cabin and to the left of the second one with a hip roof.
You can also find a description of a different route to Syltnebba with the starting point from Rognpilvegen on our website.
Drive to Surnadalsøra where the eastern road up to the chapel begins. (If you are coming from Setergarden, this will be past the fourth house on the upper side of the road after you entered Surnadalsøra.) Park your car at the open area down by the main road, at least 5 metres below the red house. This is an old timber stacking area.
