Storrota

Ålesund

The trail at a glance

The mountain range between the villages of Utvikbygda and Brusdal from Digernesskiftet in the east to Holen in the west offers many hiking opportunities. This trail goes up to Storrota (115 m a.s.l.), a small hill east of the mountain path between Utvikbygda and Brusdal. There is a picnic bench here which is a perfect place for having a snack, either in the peace and quiet of nature or together with children. This is an easy trail that even small children can enjoy. The entire trail primarily follows a gravel road. You can also get to Storrota on a mountain bike, but keep in mind that there are holes in the road (Skodje municipality no longer maintains the road).

Route description

The starting point of the trail is the beginning of the mountain path to Brusdalen. There is an information board there where you can learn more about this trail. Signs with the names of the places and the distances are placed at all junctions along the trail. The entire trail primarily follows a gravel road. When the road flattens out, you will see a sign pointing to Storrota. Once you reach Storrota, you will find a trail postbox and a picnic bench set up by the Utvikbygda Sports and Wellbeing Association. You can either follow the same way back or extend your trail by walking to Salbunakken via Storegga (please see a separate trail description).

The destination of this trail is Storrota. It is a viewing point just to the east of the mountain path.

Access and parking

The trail starts from Utvika, or more specifically Hjellen, where the mountain path to Brusdal begins. You are not allowed to drive along the mountain path. There are parking spaces for several cars here, no parking fee applies. The road is also closed from the side of Brusdal, and there are no parking opportunities there. This is why it is better to start the trail from Utvika.
