Skarsvegen road starts at Lake Holsvatnet, goes through Trollskaret and Heggdalskaret and ends in Sør-Heggdal. This was the first official road in Midsund municipality. It was constructed in 1878. This road connected the inside and outside of the island together.
Route description
Follow the road from the car park, and you will soon come to the Wilderness Camp near Lake Holsvatnet which was built by the Midsund Hunting and Fishing Association. There is a nice grill cabin there with benches outside. The road goes further ahead until it splits in two. You can turn off onto Skarsvegen to the left or take the road to the right which goes around Lake Holsvatnet. Skarsvegen road will then take you through Trollskaret and further towards a steep ascent, before you reach the Stikk Ut trail postbox. There is also a “gapahuk” shelter here, so that you can sit down to eat a snack while enjoying a great view of Rakvågen, Raknes, Tangen and the islands beyond.
Access and parking
Turn off the main road in Rakvågen near the bus bay and the closed down shop. You will see a Stikk Ut sign at the side of the road there. Keep to the left when the road splits for the first time and turn right at the next junction. You will soon reach the car park for Lake Holsvatnet and Skarsvegen.
