This scenic trail offers breathtaking views of the ocean. This route also includes Dollsteinen, which is not part of the original Sjutoppsturen (Seven Summits Trail) but is certainly worth visiting. Allow plenty of time for this hike because there is a lot to see. You will get to enjoy the ever-changing view.
This route runs in the opposite direction to the Sjutoppsturen trail, which is arranged every Easter. On that trail, you can stop after five peaks if you think you have walked far enough. The entire trail follows a good-quality path and is well marked.
Start walking from the Nøresande/Sandshamna junction. Go west and take off the main road towards Sandsbakken. Walk up to a barn at the sign for Grøntua. Follow the marked path up to Grøntua and enjoy the view before moving on to the next peak, Hornet. From Hornet, the path turns towards Våge and runs down quite steeply. Follow the road west for a little while before taking the path over Hellandsfjella. The path starts where the road turns slightly to the left. The path down from Hellandsfjellet is also quite steep. You will come down to the shore in the western part of the island. This is a perfect spot for a break. Here, you will find an old ice house that has now become a chapel. The section of the trail that starts from the shore is a steep uphill climb, the steepest of the entire trail. You will find some ropes to hold on to along the way. Once you come up the hill, you can take a detour up to Dollsteinen at the far end of the island. Follow a well-defined and slightly steep path up to the peak, where you will be rewarded by an amazing view.
Follow the marked path east to Signalen as it takes you further uphill. From here, continue to Rinden while enjoying the scenic view. This is the last of the five main peaks. On your way down from Rinden, you will get to enjoy the fantastic view of Voksa, Kvamsøya, Riste and the small islands in the area.
Once you come down to the road, follow Haugevegen and Fløda in the direction of the final two small peaks, Kulen and Kletten. You can decide which one to visit first. The path is well marked here as well. You have now walked the entire circular route and can return to the place where you have parked your car/bike.
Take a ferry from Larsnes to Voksa. You can either take a car or a bike over to the island. The distance from the ferry terminal in Voksa to Sandshamn is about 6 km. The ferries do not run very often, so make sure to plan the trip beforehand. Please check frammr.no for more information. If you are part of a group, you may consider hiring a shuttle service from Sande Båtutleige AS.
You will find several car parks in Sandshamn, for example by the shop or the community hall.
