Paddling route close to the city between islets and reefs of the lovely "Moldives", with islands, islets and reefs of Molde. This route will provide views of all 222 mountaintops of the Molde mountain panorama, as well as the city of Molde. The paddling route along the north side of Seterøya towards Hjertøya and through the sheltered lagoon is a wonderful experience.
This route starts on the east side of the Retiro swimming beach and will take you around a beautiful environment on Seterøya island, in the middle of the beautiful "Moldives". The "Moldives" is the nickname for a collection of islets and reefs out in the fjord just south of the city of Molde.
The route begins by paddling south of the city until you come to Seterøya. Here you will continue along the shorelines westward through Lagunen (the Lagoon), which is the crown jewel of the Moldives, between the islets and reefs. Lagunen is sheltered from wind and weather, and only kayaks and small boats can manage to get through this shallow area. If you prefer a shorter paddling trip, you can paddle around Ospholmen, which is sheltered from the sea on both sides and offers good paddling opportunities. Once you have come through Lagunen, you will go eastward around Seterøya and follow the south side of the island in the direction of Skåla. You will then return in the same direction you came, back to Retiro.
Be aware that there will be quite a bit of boat traffic in this area. Both the high-speed craft and the Molde-Sekken ferry regularly operate between Seterøya and Hjertøya, and the Moldives is a popular destination for leisure boats. Be cautious of leisure boats in the fjord crossing between Retiro and Seterøya.
East side of the Retiro beach. Park where all the beach guests are parking.
