This is a lovely trail through gentle terrain that is suitable for the whole family. There is a trail shelter in Ruggå which is open for everyone. You can also try to sway on Ruggesteinen, a large stone that faces Valldal. If several people stand on it together, the stone can waddle from one side to the other. You will hear a distinctive “heart sound” when it sways. Enjoy a great view of Valldal. You can see all the way from Jemtegarden to Gjerde. Ruggå is also a starting point for a longer hike, for those who are interested. You can go west towards Mount Syltefjellet as well as east and uphill towards such destinations as Nysetra, Lake Eggjevatnet, Mount Mefjellet, Heggurdalen and Trollkyrkjebotn.
Park your car in Hauge. There is a signed road through the farmyard that goes closest to the car park. Follow the tractor road until it ends. Walk straight ahead through a grazing field following a clear path. Once you come to a gate, the path will start drifting to the right. Keep to the right. The junction is signposted with an arrow pointing to the right and to Ruggå. Alternatively, you can park your car at the same place, but follow the asphalt road until you come to a farm road on your left-hand side after about 200–300 metres. There is a sign to Nysetra there. Follow this road uphill until you reach the fourth road turn and go west. The road is signposted, and the path is clear. This trail option is steeper than the first alternative, but you can enjoy a great hike. If you are looking for a longer walk, you can go via Ytterli. Park your car either in Hauge or Ytterli. Follow the tractor road on the right side of the last farm in Ytterli. The path is clear and well waymarked. There are several alternative ways down to the farm road from here, but you can keep to the upper path to come to Ruggå. The looped trail will take approximately 2 hours.
Drive to Fjørå from the centre of Valldal (Sylte) in the direction of Tafjord. Follow the sign to Selboskar. You will come to a split in the road in Selboskar. Keep to the right. After about 250 metres, you will reach a marked car park on the lower side of the road.
You can park your car at the marked car park in Hauge. Free parking.
