The route to Hannibalbukta bay is a great afternoon trip from Kringstadbukta bay and further out in the direction of Midsund. The route leads along the shoreline the entire way, and when you reach Hannibalbukta there are plenty of options to stay the night and make supper in this lovely "padlehuk" shoreline lean-to.
On this route to the bay of Hannibalbukta, you will be paddling through the inner part of the fjord close to land, or past small islands and reefs. Short stretches of the route are exposed to the open sea, especially the stretch from Prestvika to Hannibalbukta. There is generally a lot of leisure boat traffic in this area, so keep an eye out for them.
The route begins at the popular swimming beach in Kringstadbukta. Here you can launch your kayak on a sandy beach and paddle effortlessly along the shorelines in the direction of Midsund. The route leads along the shoreline the entire way, and you will be paddling past Hatlevika in Djupdalen and Kroppungvika before arriving in Haukabøbukta. From here, you will paddle out past the headland before entering Barbukta. The stretch from Barbukt to Prestvika is especially good, where you can go from one cove to another. At the fjord crossing where Julsundet and Storfjorden meet, there are significant changes in the ocean currents at high and low tide. If you experience challenging conditions when approaching Prestvika, you can paddle without any trouble to the excellent lean-to here and walk up to one of the many war bunkers in the area. If conditions allow, you can paddle out past Julneset and head to the first bay to the right, Hannibalbukta. This has an excellent "padlehuk" shoreline lean-to with good spots for campfires and spending the night.
Return along the same route or further out if you're planning a weekend trip.
Park at the parking area for Kringstadbukta beach. There are two large parking areas, and on busy summer days you may find that parking spaces nearest the beach are often full. On these days, you can park in a certain area 150 metres further up. You can also unload your equipment at the boom gate before parking in an area further away.
