The trail at a glance

The trip goes to Vinnutrappa and Øver Løkhammarn along the majestic Vinnu waterfall in Sunndal. Vinnu is the highest waterfall in Europe, and the world's sixth highest waterfall, with a total fall height of 865 metres. Vinnu originates from Vinnufonna glacier on Vinnufjellet massif. 

Route description

Walk approx. 100 metres up the valley along the pedestrian and cycling path until you cross Vinnu. From there, continue on the gravel trail up to Lifoten. The route is marked Vinnusstien. Along the trail you will pass an information board about Vinnutrappe (Vinnu Stone Staircase). Continue a few hundred metres along the trail to Vinnutrappa and the first viewpoint, Tappan. Here you can get close to the waterfall. Continue up the stone staircase. On the way up after Tappen, you will cross Vinnu, and there are several excellent viewpoints on the way up. The steps end at Øver Løkhammarn, where you once again are close to the waterfall.

Arrival and parking

Start the route at the rest stop at Hoelsskeidet, approx. 6 km along the Rv70 from Sunndalsøra centre in the direction of Oppdal.
