Melshornet is a popular destination throughout the entire ski season. This amazing mountaintop is perfect for both a day trip with the family and an afternoon workout. Many people go skiing here in the dark with torches.
Route description
The starting point of the ski trip to Melshornet can be at the centre of Volda, Krøvelseidet, or the ski resort Volda Skisenter (Reset). The trail described here has the start and the endpoint at Volda Skisenter. Go east of the ski resort and follow the ski trail that begins on the slope above a trail shelter. From here, you will gradually climb up until you meet the trail from Helgatun/Krøvelseidet. Please keep in mind that you can meet skiers on their way down on this section of the trail. Aim for the eastern end of the long mountain ridge that stretches from Grøthornet, and you will come up to a small valley, Skjervadalen, north of the long snow cornices. The rest of the trail runs uphill towards the top. Follow the same way back.
