The trail at a glance

Eresfjord. This idyllic hiking trail follows a good-quality path through deciduous forest and later through pine forest. There may be some wet marshy areas above the tree line. The hike is easy and fairly short. An alternative way down is to walk along the river. There is no path there and you might come across some rough terrain at times, but it is an exciting walk that is worth the effort.

Route description

Once you have parked your car at the campsite in Meringdal, walk over the bridge and slightly uphill past the caravans and the woodland on your right. Take a sharp turn to the right and then to the left up another field. You will soon see the path. Walk along the path for a couple of hundred metres uphill until you see an arrow pointing to the left. Follow that path further up. You will first walk up a fairly steep hillside through the forest along the ridge. The terrain becomes more moderate as you walk through an open pine forest.  At this point, you can see some typical deer wallow sites in the marsh.  Once you are above the tree line, you will get a magnificent view over Eresfjord and in the direction of Eikesdal. The ruins of a mountain farm, Meringdalsetra, can be found in a small valley down on the right, just before the final ascent to Lomshaugen. Feel free to take a detour there, too. You will find the trail journal at the top of Lomshaugen, 600 m a.s.l. The view here is absolutely amazing!
