Liafjellet from Tøssa

The trail begins on a broad good-quality forest road and runs past rocky outcrops and through a large pine forest. There are also more open sections of broad-leaf forest from time to time. After the forest sections, you will walk in a more open landscape with a great view. Parts of the path climb steeply up through the pine forest and over the marshes. In the forest, you can spot the English Yew. This is the northernmost occurrence of this tree species.

Start walking from the bus stop east of the road turn in Tøssa. Walk east along the footpath for about 200 metres. The footpath will soon change to a gravel road. Turn off to the right after about 100 m and follow a good-quality forest road which gradually becomes worse. The forest road soon goes up and eastwards. You will get a great view over the fjord and mountains here. Follow the forest road which later turns into a clear and good-quality path and runs through the pine forest to Kleivane. Cross a forest road and follow the waymarks further up the path. You will see various ribbons and sticks marking the path until you reach another path with light blue waymarks. Follow this path up to the mountaintop. If you go hiking on a summer’s afternoon or evening, you can often see cruise ships leaving Storfjorden on their way from Geiranger. The highest point lies in the far west of the long and narrow mountain ridge. From the mountaintop, you will see the Storfjorden and the farms of Ramstaddalen and Furstranda in the south and west. Ørskogvika Bay and parts of Sjøholt can be seen in the south and east. In the northwest, you will find the Solnør farm and the Skodje municipal centre. You can also see the mountaintops of Vaksvikfjellet and Ørskogfjellet far in the east, and Mount Frostadtinden lies in the north. 

You can park your car by the road turn in Tøssa (Tøssasvingen) 5.4 km away from the centre of Sjøholt along E39 in the direction of Ålesund. The starting point of the trail is at the bus stop east of the road turn in Tøssa.
