Visiting the island of Skorpa can be compared with getting an audience with the King. The only way to get to the island is by boat when the weather conditions allow for it. Beware of the tides when mooring as there are several small rocky islets near the island. If you are lucky, you might see wild goats on Skorpa or walk along the shore to the spring barn in Skorpesundet which used to be a hiding place for many locals during the war. The spring barn was restored by the Rotary Club. This scenic mountain hike offers an amazing view of Stadt and the mountains of Sunnmøre. The peak rises to 431 m a.s.l. The island has been uninhabited since the 1970s, and there are only holiday homes here now. The destination of this hike is Skorpa at 431 m a.s.l.
After the last house in the settlement, turn right and follow the path past the stone walls. Follow the path further west. Once on the mountain ridge, follow the path east until you reach the peak. Here, you will get a fantastic view of Nerlandsøya, Svinøya, Stadt, and the mountains of Sunnmøre. We also recommend taking a walk to Skorpesundet to see the spring barn that was restored by the Herøy Rotary Club. This historical place dates back to the time of the war. You will find information about the war inside the barn.
