On your way up to Jarskar, you will walk through a very well-kept cultural landscape, beautiful flower meadows, and a hazel grove. You will get a fantastic view from Jarskar over Storfjorden and Mount Storfjellet on the other side. This idyllic trail is a perfect fit for an afternoon or an evening hike. You will also get an amazing view of cruise ships leaving the fjord under the evening sun.
You can do a loop trail by following a path and a forest road to Vestre. Follow the walkway back to the starting point. On the northwestern side of Mount Storfjellet, you will see Ramstaddalen and Søvika in Sykkylven Municipality. The three Skotet farms are to be seen on the southern side of the mountain. You will also have a view of the mountains along Storfjorden: Solliåsen, Hallvardsfjellet, Jolgrøhornet, and Grøtet furthest in the Eidsdalen Valley.
Route description
Park your car next to the Skarbø school and walk up through the Skarbøfeltet area. After a sharp left turn of the road, turn off onto a forest road that climbs quite steeply up to the right. On the top of the hill, turn left and walk past a nice small farm. Keep following the forest road up to the postbox next to a gate 1.7 km away from the school. At this point, you can turn around and walk back or do a loop trail by following a good quality path/forest road through the forest over the hill until you come down to the road in Vestre. Turn right and walk down to the main road. Follow the walkway back to the Skarbø school.
