The route to Håbakknotten has a gradual, but short incline – perfect for an afternoon jog or weekend walk with small children. There are several good spots along the trail to take a break, both at the giant Merkarsteinen stone slab and by the ruins of the summer pasture cabin.
Route description
From central Hareid, follow Strandgata from the harbour area and towards the left up Hjellebakken. From Finnsgardspark, continue left up Teigeråsa and to the top of the hill. About 50 metres to the left at Hovlidvegen, follow Torkelvegen to the right. The road gradually flattens and after another 50 metres, you will see a smaller side road to the left. At the end of this road, continue along a stone fence to the left of a grey barn and further up the farmyard until you see an old house to your left. The trail gradually becomes more visible as it is increasingly rocky. Now there will be a slight uphill until you reach the large, flat stone slab – Merkarsteinen. About 200 metres past Merkarsteinen, the trail divides. Take the trail to the right and follow it until you reach your destination. When heading down again, you can either take the same trail or make a loop by staying on the trail and returning to the main trail about 200 metres from where you left it.

Other
The huge Merkarsteinen stone slab on the way up is a popular place for families to stop for a break. A little further up along the main trail you can see the ruins of a summer pasture barn, which is another popular place to stop. A park bench has been placed here. The summer barn is on the left side of the trail where it branches off towards Håbakknotten.
