This scenic hiking trail covers open terrain and follows a well-defined path. You will walk through a birch forest at the start. The trail has a gradual ascent and some steep sections towards the end. The area is snow free from the end of May. The surface is dry almost the entire time, and you will walk on a couple of small rocky outcrops as you approach the peak. The north and west-facing side of the mountain is steep, and the view in many directions is fantastic.
Start by walking from Stortrøna by E39 in the direction of Ørskogfjellet. Follow the signs for Mount Giskemonibba along the gravel road up to the Kvanndalen Valley. Turn off from the car park on the northern side of the stream. This area can sometimes be wet. Cross the stream after 40–50 m to get to its southern side. The path here can sometimes be poorly defined, but it will gradually improve, and you will follow a fairly good-quality path for the rest of the hike. Above the tree line, cross over to the northern side of the stream again. Instead of following the same route back, you can walk via Høgsætra. To do that, walk back for a little while before turning eastwards down a steep slope in the direction of the mountain gap along a clearly defined path. For an alternative route to Giskemonibba, start from Giskemosaga and walk to Høgsætra. From Høgsætra, you can follow a ridge (in the direction of Landedalen) towards Giskemonibba. The beginning of the path that runs up from the mountain pasture at Høgsætra is slightly overgrown with juniper. This path is also a little unclear as it runs through the mountain gap before the peak. The terrain is dry and easy to follow but steep throughout the final section.
Turn off from E39 near Stortrøna in Landedalen 5.4 km north of Sjøholt. There is a large car park on the southeastern side of the road. You will see trail signs for Kvanndalsætra, Giskemonibba, and Postvegen (Eng. The Mail Route) here. Most hikers usually drive up the toll road to the river. This makes the hike more family friendly.
