Galten

Volda

The trail at a glance

Folkestad in Volda Municipality is where you will find Galten, Sunnmøre’s answer to Trolltunga. The place offers a fantastic view over Dalsfjorden, and it has become popular as both a hiking destination and a great photo spot.

Route description

If you arrive by ferry, take the right turn after the car park at the ferry terminal. Follow the road until you reach the Coop shop. Turn left and drive along the road called “Råsa” until you reach the exit to the Blåfjellvegen toll road. This is where you can park your car. It takes around 20 to 30 minutes to walk from the beginning of the toll road to the first waymark at the forest road. Follow the forest road until you reach the next waymark. Once the road ends, you will need to cross the marsh before reaching the top of the mountain ridge. There are waymarks from here up to the top. When you come up to the mountain ridge, you will see signposts for Galten. Follow the path to the right. The path takes you up a gentle slope and climbs up slightly steeper at the end. It is also possible to walk all the way to the trail destination. The distance from the ferry terminal to the beginning of the toll road, Blåfjellsvegen, is about 1.7 km.
