Gapahuk Shelter at Fokhaugstova
Fjord
The ski trip to Fokhaugstova is suitable for the majority of people. You can choose to start skiing either from the surface lift (3.6 km) or from Pusken (about 2 km). The trail from Pusken follows a gently ascending slope up to the traditional gapahuk shelter and a nice downhill slope back to the starting point.
The length of the trail varies depending on where you start. It is 2 km from the car park in Pusken, Langsætrane, but if you choose the car park in Overøye as your starting point, the trail will be 3.6 km long. The trail is described here from the car park next to the surface lift in Overøye.
The cross-country trail begins on the lower side of the car park. Follow this trail along the valley as it runs by the side of the river through relatively flat terrain. Watch out for the traffic when the motorway crosses your ski trail. Continue skiing straight ahead until you reach the bridge and the car park in Pusken. There is an illuminated ski trail along this section. You will usually have to take off your skis when you cross the bridge. Follow the ski trail (not the motorway) that drifts slightly to the right after you pass the bridge. It will be relatively flat at first before a moderate ascent up to the gapahuk shelter at Fokhaugstova begins.
Drive from the centre of Stordal for about 6 km in the direction of Valldal/Stranda. Turn off the main road at the sign for the alpine ski resort. Drive up the road for about 8 km until you reach the alpine ski resort in Overøye. There is a large car park there. The cross-country trail begins at the lower side of the car park.
