This outdoor experience is not to be missed. On this hike, you will realise why the Sunndal region is described as wild and beautiful. With its 1189 metres above sea level, Mount Ekkertinden is Sunndal’s version of Prekestolen. Take this spectacular hike and you will not regret it!
The trail starts at the Vollan farm. Follow the marked hiking path that winds its way up the steep mountainside through flower fields and a birch forest until you reach Vollasetra. Vollasetra is a cosy self-service cabin where you can stay overnight if you want to divide this hike in several parts. To get from Vollasetra to Ekkertinden, follow the path with red waymarks that climbs up the ridge towards another peak, Litlhøa. Continue walking southwest through easy terrain from the mountain gap by Litlhøa to Ekkertinden. At Vollasetra, follow the Stikk Ut sign with an arrow pointing right. The first section of the path runs along the river, past a water conduit. Follow the red and blue marks further up along the river. The place where you should turn left and walk up the hill is marked. The route was changed this year, so it now follows the original path through the protected area.
Park your car by the Vollen farm in Gjøra, Upper Sunndal.
