Around Aursnesvatnet

This trail is a good fit for families with children and is generally accessible for the majority of people with no prior experience. The route offers a beautiful view towards both Leikong and Eiksund. You might also see some wild sheep in the area. There are also several nice spots along the shoreline which are worth taking a detour to.

Start walking along the gravel road that begins from the road turn at the end of Lake Aursnesvatnet, around 300 metres east of Håheim on Selvågvegen Road. The car park is 50 metres away from the turn. The trail is easy to follow as it primarily goes down to the end of the lake where it meets the sea. From here, the terrain gets more uneven, but the path is very good. There are a few marshy areas along the way. You will get a great view over the sea in the direction of Leikong and a view towards Eiksund. The path then climbs up to the residential area in Aursneset. From here, follow the motorway, Selvågvegen, back to the starting point.

From Volda/Ørsta: Follow E39 until you reach a roundabout in Furene. Turn off in the direction of Ulsteinvik and drive through the Eiksund Tunnel (RV653). Take the left turn just before the Selvåg Tunnel and drive past a residential area in the direction of Aursneset. Shortly after you pass the lake itself, you will come to a small car park on the left side of the road that can accommodate several cars. The path starts several meters further ahead, on the left side of a sharp right turn. From Hareid/Ulsteinvik/Herøy area: Drive in the direction of Volda/Ørsta (RV653) and turn off to Selvåg right after you pass the Selvåg Tunnel. There is a car park for a few cars on the left side of Selvågvegen Road, about 50 m from the road turn where the trail starts. Alternatively, you can park at the start of the old road around Aursneset, on the side of Haddal. There is a car park with plenty of space right next to the Selvåg Tunnel. This will add a couple of kilometres of walking.
